FitzGerald’s nightclub and Singer Spotlight Productions are teaming up to support 5-year-old Ethan Tkalec, who was diagnosed with GAN (Giant Axonal Neuropathy) with a fundraiser at FitzGerald’s starting at 6:30pm.
This rare terminal disorder progressively kills every nerve cell in the body, first impacting walking. It eventually renders its victims quadriplegics, with feeding tubes and ventilators to assist with breathing. It is unfathomable to think that Ethan will slowly lose the ability to play, sing, draw, and eat, activities we all take for granted. There is no treatment and no cure at this time. Life expectancy for children with GAN depends on the rate of nerve degeneration in each child. Since GAN is considered an “orphan” disease, no major charitable organizations are helping us raise funds. We are partnered with Hannah’s Hope Fund for GAN (www.hannahshopefund.org), a 501c3 Public Charity established by Lori and Matt Sames when their daughter Hannah, was diagnosed with GAN in 2008. Hannah’s Hope Fund for GAN sole purpose is to raise funding and awareness to find a treatment and a cure for all children affected by GAN.
To help raise funds, there will be a live charity auction starting at 6:30pm. The cost of the event is $30, including one drink ticket and admission to Chicago Singer Spotlight.
